| Respite care is provided mainly by Social Care: this has to come from a person's Community Care Assessment (there has to be a need) or if the main carer's Carer Assessment states a need. Carers Action and Herefordshire Carers support can provide some respite. Carers Action are reponsible for the Crossroads scheme - again this has to come from an official assessment. However, some informal respite can be obtained from either Carers Action or Herefordshire Carers Support. | ||||

Barnado's provide a short break service to support disabled children and their families in Herefordshire. Barnado's are working in partnership with Herefordshire County council and will receive all their referrals through the children with Disabilities Team at the Kite Centre (1 Ledbury Road). Two types of short breaks are offered: firstly short breaks, eg one weekend per month. Secondly sessional support, where the child/young person is supported for a number of hours each week to access community facilities.From 1 April 2009, Barnado's can offer a domiciliary care service, referrals coming through the Kite Centre. | ||||
